Basketry
Bonanza
Enjoy playing with an assortment
of natural materials and techniques during this introduction to the
artistry and functionality of traditional willow basket-making. Over
the course of just a weekend, participants will have an opportunity
to weave an assortment of baskets including: a small rush mouse, a multi-coloured
cane basket and a white willow bunarier.

Heather
Sanft, a highly respected basketmaker,
has honed her craft over the course of 20 years. She has apprenticed
in France and England, and is the eighth generation of a founding Lunenburg,
Nova Scotia family. Although she has utilized a variety of materials
for her baskets, the majority are made from willow. Her university degrees
are in anthropology and museum studies and her lifelong passion is the
study of Native American Indian basketry.
