This course will
introduce the individual to the art of maiolica decoration, the Italian
technique of painting with oxides and stains on an opaque white glaze
surface. Using colourful Lunenburg sights as inspirational subject matter,
participants will first be given a historical tour of the town to study
and photograph the local architecture. Participants will then learn
to transfer their favourite image on to tile. They will glaze paint
their chosen subjects on to a variety of pre-made tiles which will then
be fired. The course will include a slide presentation and several books
on maiolica will be available for reference.
