The craft of traditional
rug hooking – pulling hand cut strips of wool from yardage or
cast-offs – is flexible and free enough to lead every beginner
to quickly explore his or her own style and interests. In this class,
participants will learn the basics of rug hooking using wide-cut woollen
cloth strips. Participants will start with a simple pattern designed
specifically for the class to learn the techniques needed. The course
will then focus on designing an original project, transferring the design
to the backing, colour planning, selecting wool and learning how to
finish the edges. A field trip to local hooking studios will provide
participants with inspiration and the opportunity to purchase supplies
to bring home.
From her original
designs, fibre artist Anne Morrell Robinson
creates quilts, hooked rugs, art dolls and wearable art. Anne has taught
fibre arts for 25 years, has exhibited widely across North America and
has many awards to her credit. Her work is found in private, government
and corporate collections. She lives in Margaree Valley, Cape Breton.
