I cannot
suppose there is anybody here who would think it either a good life,
or an amusing one, to sit with one's hands before one doing nothing---to
live like a gentleman, as fools call it.
--British artist and craftsman William Morris, addressing
Trades' Guild of Learning, 1877
Lunenburg Seaside
Craft School was founded to provide a meaningful learning experience
in traditional crafts—those that have been passed down from generation
to generation and most often involve natural materials. We chose Nova
Scotia for its wealth of skilled artisan/teachers, and Lunenburg for
its scenic beauty and long tradition of support for arts and crafts.
The town itself
epitomizes craft through its unique architectural and boat-making traditions,
its abundance of folk art, and its burgeoning arts community. Its location
on the sea, on a hilly peninsula between two harbours, inspires the
artistic spirit while its community comes alive each summer with some
of the most popular festivals in the province.
We hope you'll find
a course that's just right for you whether you're an experienced craftsperson,
a life-long learner, a relaxation-seeker, or just plain curious about
what you might be able to create with your hands.
Through our own
involvement in craft and through the process of creating Lunenburg Seaside
Craft School, we have come to believe that creativity is always a journey.
So we cordially
invite you to take your own journey this summer. We think you'll go
home with more than pretty postcards. We believe you'll leave Lunenburg
with an experience that will extend your journey far into the future.
